House 109 Vat Chan Street was built in the 1950s as a single family house then extended in the 1970s to accommodate a business and warehouse. The warehouse was never completed and the rear of the building was not enclosed. AHL acquired the lease in 2003 and remodeled the building into 3 apartments.
Particular problems during the renovation were persistent termites, a segment of exterior wall that was collapsing (it was demolished and completely replaced with added horizontal support) and flooding of the ground floor during heavy rains. One stairway had a head clearance of only about 1.5 meters - even the Lao workers had to duck! Now the tall stairway is completely open and has a huge window.
Today the house and warehouse are three beautiful apartments, each with a special character. They are very much sought after and are never vacant.
